Live Train Map launched in Manchester

As part of the First of a Kind 2021 competition, announced earlier this year, we’ve launched a pilot in Manchester to demonstrate our new live train mapping technology.

Visitors to the concourse at Manchester Victoria railway station can now see a live demo of a digital sign, powered by Signalbox API, that enables rail passengers to view and track train movements in real-time, in and around the Manchester area. Think FlightRadar for railways.

Delivered in collaboration with Northern Rail, the trial - which is live until 22 November - forms part of a beta launch of three new tools that use animated maps to deliver real-time information to rail passengers through new and engaging formats, in stations, online, and on smartphones.

We’re gathering feedback about the digital sign in Manchester, so if you’re in the area, please drop in to share your thoughts. On the sign, you’ll find a QR code to our feedback form. And as a thank you, you can claim a free tea or coffee from our friends at nearby Java Coffee. We’ll be analysing your feedback to improve the product in advance of its commercial launch in 2022.

If you would like to learn more about this innovation, and other applications of geospatial visualisation for the rail industry, please contact us to register for our next online event: 11am GMT, Tuesday 14 December.
